Half 3 of our retrospective of the watchmaking journey of François-Paul Journe, the place he discusses his inspiration and, extra importantly, his pursuit of precision chronometry. Having a critical obsession with chronometry begs the query, “what’s the ultimate watch I might make for myself?” That is what he asks himself. That query sparked the creation of the Chronométre Optimum and The Optimum Chronometer.
Regardless that the concept to construct his personal watch began in 1984, François-Paul Journe lacked the ample expertise to work on the timepiece, so he went backwards and forwards attempting various things, and stored this within the drawer for a decade. The Chronométre Optimum solely noticed the sunshine of day in 2012, after the debut of Tourbillon Souverain and Chronometre Souverain.
