Masayoshi Hanawa’s intricate ceramic and resin creatures are pulled from the artist’s inside mythology. His creations are stuffed with mosaic-like element, every nook of a monster a meticulously crafted and vibrant sample.
“When he was youngster, (he) lived along with his mom in a really remoted home within the woods. His mom labored at night time,” writes Atsuko Barouh. “To maintain his fears at bay, he drew monsters who protected him. As an grownup, he continues to attract these creatures, favoring work on a smooth cotton cloth that may be folded and carried round all over the place. For a couple of years, he has been working in a manufacturing facility making frying pans. This work, remodeling steel, fascinates him.”
