Yool Kim seizes the disarray of our interior emotional landscapes by trapping energetically impassioned characters in her color-blocked works. Contorted our bodies, floating heads, and abstractly formed cut-outs reveal a variety of moods and emotions all compacted into the oblong canvas. Centered on linework and easy shapes the Seoul-based artist scratches into the composition, the mixed-media works characteristic stylized figures who emphasize play, unhappiness, and malaise.
The place sample indicators an underlying sense of order, the characters’ facial expressions veer in the other way. “I draw myself. I need to specific all the pieces I really feel in life, corresponding to my ideas that aren’t organized, my needs, my relationships with individuals,” the artist shares. ” I draw a sequence of ideas which can be blended in my head that haven’t matured, (which have) not grown not like my physique, as if dividing classes.”
Kim could have items on view in a solo present opening on March 24 at All About Art in Singapore and a gaggle exhibition opening on March 25 at Brooklyn’s Court Tree Collection. Discover an archive of her works on Instagram.
