“Although the themes of his work are acquainted cartoon faces, José Rodolfo’s compositions are removed from acquainted,” the gallery says. “By way of the darkly humorous appropriation and manipulation of basic cartoons and pop-cultural icons, the artist is ready to subvert the clean-cut hetero- normative fairytale constructions from which his characters are plucked. Whether or not it’s two princesses kissing, or a beloved fairytale prince collaborating in illicit drug exercise, Rodolfo’s compositions are supposed to shock, discomfort, and spotlight the unrealistically sanitized perfection that these characters stand for.”
