A number of work from Brooklyn-based artist Alexander Harrison’s current solo exhibition, Large World, at Kasmin gallery. With a long-held curiosity within the cosmos and physics, Harrison creates an “alternate dimension” in his work — “a universe that appears like a fever dream as proven by way of my eyes.” He invokes the grandiosity of the cosmos with symbols like capturing stars and moons, whereas concurrently creating intimacy and a way of groundedness by together with parts from the pure world, like roots underneath the bottom or a spider internet.
Rising up in an insular, tight-knit neighborhood of household and mates in South Carolina, Harrison was all the time drawn towards what existed past the bounds of the life he knew. “I’ve all the time needed to exceed my boundaries, to maneuver far-off from my upbringing and stretch myself to see what I used to be able to,” he says. I’m within the midst of transferring out of New York. I’m in want of a shift and I’m questioning what the change of surroundings once I return to the South will do to my work. I’ll have extra time with my household and these landscapes I grew up with. Will probably be enjoyable to get into plein-air portray and possibly return to my grandpa’s farm. I really feel like I’ve been portray from a distance and I’m able to deliver it again to heart.”
