Necklaces produced from classic Japanese kimonos, brooches adorned with crushed eggshell, and rings with “stones” created from plastic litter all made a displaying on the 2023 opening profit preview for MAD About Jewellery, the annual pop-up sale of latest artist-made jewellery on the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) in New York Metropolis.
These attending the opening festivities on Tuesday, April 25, donned their most beloved jewellery to have fun the weeklong pop-up sale. The sale options 50 artists from 20 nations chosen to come back to the museum and showcase their work. It runs by means of Saturday, April 29.
Past gold and silver, the artists employed all kinds of supplies, from discarded wine bottles and seashells to wooden, Lucite, financial institution notes from Guyana, and pleated paper. Artists from Brazil and Estonia participated within the sale for the primary time, becoming a member of makers from Asia, Africa, Europe, South America, and North America. A few third of the makers had been younger rising artists.
