Born and raised in Iran, Toronto-based artist Sheida Shekarian is drawn to our shared experiences and what it means to be human. Whereas she has labored on photoshoots, in graphic design, and admires quite a lot of inventive fields, Sheida all the time returns to illustration. Her narrative-based visuals incorporate a way of humour and deep appreciation for the complexity of our lives as social creatures craving to be understood by each other. Her e-book opens with a quote from Dr. Gabor Maté — “There isn’t a closeness that may surpass the sense of feeling identified and nonetheless being appreciated, accepted, welcomed, invited to exist” — an announcement which encompasses the intention behind her photos:
“Every bit is an invite to recollect moments spent within the presence of others. Most of my fondest recollections have inside them, each within the foreground and background, the presence of buddies, classmates, household and even strangers. That heat feeling of being surrounded by others, generally being liked and at finest occasions being seen, is the place by which every picture will get created from.”
