Taking care of your tie

The care of a tie is primordial for the conservation of the quality of the material. It is therefore imperative to take certain precautions to avoid degradation. This is why, on i-class.fr, we propose a few tips for the maintenance of your tie.

Rules for correct tie use:

Iron tie

If your woven silk tie is crumpled, we advise you to hang it for a few hours. Most of the time, your tie will go back to its original form. Gravity relaxes the silk which constitutes the tie. One variant on the preceding piece of advice consists of hanging the tie in your bathroom while you take your shower, and then to lay the tie flat to dry. The vapor will relax the fibers of the silk. Woven ties do not need to be hung to regain their forms.

You can also iron your ties. In this case be careful to place a layer of fabric between the tie and the iron before ironing.

Wash tie - Clean tie

You should never take apart or wash your ties yourself. In fact, if you try to wash your ties in water, they will lose their form. This is due to the fact that a tie is made of different envelopes, which shrink in different ways when in contact with water. We advise you to confide your ties to a good dry cleaner for care.

Stocking your ties:

After use, we advise you to stock your ties by preference folded in two and laid flat in tie cases or rolled on themselves by beginning with the thinner tail. Conserve your ties in a drawer or suspended in a cupboard away from the sunlight when you are not wearing them to avoid loss of color. You can, for example, stock your ties in a drawer or suspended on hangers in a cupboard, or better still, on a tie-rack.
